2012 PREVIEW: Mayhem and Carnage, Straight Up!

When Roland Emmerich destroys the world, he does it with a certain panache. Independence Day, Godzilla, Day After Tomorrow are some of his previous epic disaster movies and 2012 looks to be kicking it up yet again. With an off-beat cast including genre favourites like John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Woody Harrelson, the Mayan doomsday is compounded by a government conspiracy and some of the biggest scale earth-ending images we’ve ever seen!

This movie could go two ways. 1, it could be an epic disaster movie guilty pleasure, like Independence Day or The Day After Tomorrow or 2, it could be one of the worst films of year, on par with Roland’s last movie, 10,000 B.C. I’ll save my opinions until I see the movie but could somebody please answer this one question and it might not be a big deal: Why is Arnold Schwarzenegger still Governor in 2012? Isn’t he going to be done soon?

  2. Sin Says:

You said it Heath! The disaster scenes are going to be great but the scenes with actors and some situations they will be in are going to be ridiculous as always in these movies.

  3. Juhan Says:

Sorry, but this looks like two hours of Mario Kart…

I’ve seen the trailers and everything I can on this and I have to say that this promises to be bad as his other ones. I have not like one of his films. hIs movies are always the same: disaster, unlikely hero in a dead/hard shocked relationship, etc. He is basically like michael bay: all flash not substance. I like John Cusack in three movies. And for the final reasoning against this movie is…Knowing. Both disaster movies have religious undertones (an ark, really?). I will probably wait ’til the dvd comes to my library and rent it for free while doing something else while watching the movie. I refuse to give this movie any of my money. I trusted him too many times.

That wasn’t Arnie – It was a parody of Arnie.

    My question is:
Matt and Nat and everyone else – have you been watching ‘Flashforward’ on ABC or ATV (A-Channel) here in Canada? It’s awesome!!!! The ep last night was the best yet. At this point, about 7 eps in, we are really getting to know the characters and things are unfolding in such a cool way.
Based on a book by Can. sci fic legend Robert Sawyer. (of course it’s not BSG, but it’s pretty frakkin good!)
Are you going to start reviewing this show, and Fringe and V? Let us at least know in one GeekNews cast what your impressions are of these three?

Geek is on TV too, godsdarnit!

Just saw the movie last night… Yeah, it sucked. Plain and simple. Matt & Nat, good luck reviewing it.

  7. Gilad Says:

Just saw it. The special effects were great!! The story line sucked. It was a good fun old times movie (Jurassic Park, Independence Day,..) and nothing more.
    Don’t expect a masterpiece, just a good time :)
