Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 is easily the darkest film in the series, but as half a movie, it’s tough to judge on its own merit. We both loved it to death, but we’ve also BOTH read all the books at this point. What did you think?

Great review you two!
Just wanted to let anyone who was as charmed by Harry and Hermione dancing in the tent that the song playing was Nick Cave’s “O Children” from “The Lyre of Orpheus”.
Keep up the good work.
Wow, your review was 100% true!
The dancing-tent scene was so good… and the animation sequence was like a Tim Burton short movie. I’ve enjoyed both the movie and the review
It’s too much time untill the second part….
While i havn’t seen this movie, one of my mates worked as a Visual Effects artist on it (he also worked on number 3 too. The shots of the Knight Bus squeezing through the 2 normal busses), but he told me that the scene at the end by the grave (that he worked on), he said that Ralph Fienes had a blue plaster on his little finger, and he wouldn’t take it off for the shoot, so they had to use his index finger and paint from that ontop of the plaster on the little finger. Apparently it was a nightmare to do.
He also rigged the piece of paper that opens in mid air (the Will), and that took him ages since it was difficult to get the center of gravity correct, working on the corners and making sure there were controls to get it flopping around with correct physics, etc. So yeah, This film was a nightmare for my mate.
So yeah, just thought i’d throw those bits of insider trivia towards you
By the way, loved the “like a g6″ Harry Potter version, so cool and geeky at the same time
Hey all,
Great review! Agreed about the Malphoys. I’ve had that opinion of Draco since pretty much the beginning. The theme song was indeed pretty awesome this time around. I was excited when I heard Bill Nighy was going to be in the movie and he was pretty awesome. I just wish he had more scenes.
After hearing them talk about the deaths of Mad Eye and the Minister, I wished they showed the battles. This is why I really want to read the books now. I hadn’t made time to read the books. I think I’m going to wait until after part 2 comes out so I won’t be like “that was not in the book!” or “they left this out!”. Though, I want to know what happens next and more explanation of the past movies. This is how I feel about Walking Dead too.
Pretty funny intro music. This is also a pretty hilarious parody. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2jTXYxm2_Y

I just have to say, I’ve never been more in love with a franchise, or a review of one, like this before. Even though I still haven’t seen the movie, I’m honestly dying to see it now. I was worried over all the trailers showing so much from the the 8th movie that it kept me from having any serious hope for the 7th. I don’t know what exactly it was about this post that convinced me but I’m happy for it. I’m a long time fan of the books and haven’t yet been as enthused about the movies as I was about the source material, but c’mon, wasn’t that review epic?! All the Horcrux was a choice opener! I want nothing more this holiday season than to see DH! Sorry Tron and Warriors Way. You got me YGN, I’m on board. I’m a freelance artist so my funds aren’t always something to brag about but I’m going all in for this one!
By the way, Matt, after showing some of my friends this and hearing their reaction, I’m definitely donating to the removal of your macho man hair rug. L.O.L.!!!
I’m sorry, my friend’s exact quote was, “macho man lip rug.” …I guess. L.O.L.!!!
Much like the sixth movie, I thought this one actually improved on the source material. In Half-Blood Prince, you have the kiss scenes making more sense…Lavender strikes me in the books as more of the “jump you in public” character where Ginny is more reserved. In this one, the first huge change that made it so much better was Hedwig’s death…rather than being stuck in her cage and just falling out of the sidecar, she defended Harry to her death and sacrificed herself. It was also a better “give away” that this was the real Harry than “oh, he’s defending people, must be him!” The “mudblood” carved in Hermione’s arm was great too…one, the wound bled a “tear” when she really couldn’t, and two it gives her something in common with Harry (the Umbridge scars). Speaking of, WB knows where the money is, and it’s not in Rupert Grint (who did his best work in the franchise) or Bonnie Wright (who was again virtually invisible). The dance scene in the tent was an add-on from the book, and there was this brief moment that you thought the tension would break and Harry and Hermione would kiss…and then it’s gone. Then the Horcrux versions…Emma Watson can do evil, and she really -is- an animal the way she was going after Dan in that heated kiss. Some director needs to get those two a romantic lead like Titanic. As for Dobby’s death, it was touching, but would’ve been more so if they’d worked the character in even a bit after the second movie…in the books he’s in 4, 5, and 6 and thus you have more of a vested interest.
