A Spider-Man Movie with no Tobey Maguire? You’ve got Nat’s interest. No Snaggletooth as Mary Jane? Alright, Matt’s on board too. Sony reboots the web-head with a villain we never really got to see in Sam Raimi’s trilogy (a page out of Nolan’s book?), and a love interest that was drastically mishandled in Spider-Man 3. With an emphasis on the mysterious disappearance of the Parkers and Peter’s destiny, The Amazing Spider-Man actually looks pretty good, despite being a too-soon-to-make-sense reboot. But Marvel characters do that a lot, don’t they?
Why? Out of all the wonderful ideas out there that need funding, why spend money on a Spiderman reboot? Do I think it’s gonna be good as the Batman Reboot? No. Thanks Matt and Nat for the 7 minutes but I ain’t amped to see this one.
Im excited to see what they messed up. I mean seriously the “first 3″ ruined Spider-man like the genetic web out of his arm, Harry’s green goblin on a snow-board and paint ball mask to Topher Grace as Eddie Brock….we h e seen the worse. Give us good!
I really enjoyed it. 8.5 out of 10. The reason it was not higher was it seem to be missing two or three scenes to me. Spoilers After the bridge scene we never see Irrfan Khan’s character again. That pretty much shut downs the what happen to Richard Parker storyline which I like a lot. I thought there should have been a scene where Khan reports back to Oscorp(Norman Osborn). Then a second scene after the ending Stacy/Parker college scene but before the web swinging. The scene should have been the scene Marc Webb filmed that was on the trailer where Michael Massee (who I believed played Norman Osborn) character talks to Curt Connors in jail.
Now I have a feeling it was Sony and not Webb who got rid of Massee’s Osborn because they wanted a bigger name for the next film. In doing so the movie lost that storyline and I think that is why some fans and critics were down on the movie a bit. (ie 9/10 to 7/10)
Guys will you do a review? I would enjoy knowing what you think. For me its 3/10, this is really really disappointing, very poorly scripted, CGI that is just bad, supposedly high emotional scenes that are just non-sense, the worst version of Peter Parker being bite by the spider — c’mon, Peter enters a chamber where genetically engineered spiders spin webs that are Oscorp sells as advanced cable and one of them bites him turning him to spider-man! So if in the following week someone steps into the chamber, we can have two spider-men around! How idiotic is that? A super-hero needs to originate in a once-in-a-lifetime-what-are-the-odds event! In the comics the spider is radioactive by accident — a once-in-a-lifetime-what-are-the-odds event. And Peter Parker apparently does not make his webs, he just shoots that special cable from Oscorp! How stupid is that??
The trailers just don’t convince me to go to this.
I liked the Spidey films with Tobey and feel they portrayed Parker well…so I am not sure I want to ruin that for myself.
Will watch it eventually, but not a movie ticket film for me.
Thank you Matt and Nat for your continuing the site – it is much loved.
You two Torontonians are very interesting folks – keep up the enthusiasm for pop culture and your amazing careers!
When will BSG Blood and Chrome air….hear it’s going to be a while and that’s too bad.

OMG this really blew it. Should have gone directly to DVD or not even released at all.
