AMAZING SPIDERMAN REVIEW: Sorry Raimi, Webb Has You Beat

Matt and Nat are in agreement: there is only one good Spider-Man film in the world, and this is it. Sorry Raimi-fans. Why? Watch and find out! Disagree? Then let us know!

  1. Liked it, didn’t love it. I guess it’s cause Raimi’s original trilogy made an impact on me when I was 8. Even before I was 8 I was a die-hard Spidey fan. Garfield and Stone were great, but The Lizard was very underdeveloped and maybe a little slow for me in the beginning. Solid B.

  2. I don’t think it was too soon at all because I have been waiting for a decent Spider-Man ever since they announced Raimi’s first one 10 years ago. If they didn’t make clear that this was a fresh start and a clean break, that awful trilogy would be hanging over the franchise. Perhaps now we can finally forget about the previous awful three movies.

And to be frank, I laughed more in this than in Avengers and I found the drama more gripping than in The Dark Knight Rises. For me this was the best superhero movie this year in spite of the stiff competition. (And don’t get me wrong, I LOVED Avengers, and while I think TDKR has some problems and is Nolan’s least good film that’s still pretty awesome by my reckoning.)

Really smiled a lot when Matt asked whether Nat was really going to disavow all the previous Spider-Man movies and Nat was like “um… yeah!”

And yeah Matt, the bit in the cell at the end was a bit lame, but the rest of the film was so much fun that I didn’t mind. Though, tbh I felt the same way about the pointless appearance of Nick Fury after Iron Man. Who knows, perhaps when the new Spider-Man villain is revealed it’ll be just as cool? (Michael Massee did the voice work and I think he could be a pretty awesome Spidey villain. Very interested by the idea that he might be playing Ezekiel.)

  3. Just saw the DKR review on Blip and at the end you guys asked what was left to review this year. I have one word for you “Dredd”. Creator of the comics has already seen it and given it the thumbs up. Karl Urban plays the judge/jury/executioner supercop. Forget about the cheesy Stallone movie. THIS is going to be something special.

And in the same month ZOMG!!!! “Looper”! JGL returns as a hired killer whose job is to execute people for the mob who’ve been sent back in time. Until he’s suddenly expected to kill his older self (played by Bruce Willis). Lot of hype for this, so I’d be surprised if you’ve missed it.

Hope that gets you a bit more excited for this coming month. :D
