AVATAR REVIEW: Ho…Lee…Frak…

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

James Cameron definitely made the most of nearly 15 years and 300 Million dollars making Avatar, because it looks and feels completely unlike any movie ever. Maybe it’s the tasteful use of 3D technology, maybe the striking resemblance the CG characters have to their human actor equivalents, or maybe it was the fact that an entirely computer generated world actually felt REAL for the first time ever, but Avatar definitely knocked us both out… what about you?

AVATAR PREVIEW: Breakthrough this, Revolutionary that…

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

It’s taken a decade and a half for James Cameron to bring Avatar to the silver screen (in 3-D IMAX no less), but now that technology has caught up with his imagination, he’s leading an all-star action-packed cast into the jungles of a world called Pandora to meet his photo-realistic blue-skinned aliens. Using custom-made performance capture rigs on a scale never before attempted, Avatar LOOKS stunning so far and there’s a lot of talk about the technology and the visuals, but as is the case in any movie, the real satisfaction for the audience lies in that 15-year old paper that Avatar was written on. Is THAT any good? We’ll soon find out, but with Cameron at the helm as writer and director and producer, we’ve definitely got our hopes high!

If you’re looking for a way to get even more engrossed in all things Avatar before this week’s release, check out The Official TypePad Avatar Community, we’ve been playing on there ourselves and having a great time!

NEW MOON REVIEW: Twilight Kicked Up a Notch

Friday, November 20th, 2009

We were both impressed with what this sequel was able accomplish over the first film in the Twilight franchise. With better action, better acting, and better direction all around, New Moon gave both Nat as a Twilight veteran, and Matt as a noob, much more than we were expecting.

HARRY POTTER 6 REVIEW: Great Film, Awful Adaptation

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Now that Matt has read all the books along with Nat, the tag-team fury of two Potter-heads trying to review Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince as the best film in the series before going on a tirade about the faithlessness of adaptation… well it might just blow your mind as much as it did ours.

In any event, we’ve never loved and hated a Potter film more than this one, so hit up YourGeeknews.com and give us YOUR thoughts, since we’re all the kind of geeks who were sitting there at 12:01 when the lights went down and the applause began!

HARRY POTTER 6 PREVIEW: Seriously? They’re Calling it HP6?

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth story in the Harry Potter Anthology, is coming to the big screens after breaking the hearts of fans everywhere with a tragic (yet necessary) plot development in the book. And now we get to see all that nastiness come to life! Since being blown away by Order of the Phoenix, Matt has actually read all the books, and it’ll be interesting to see how opinions may change since our 2007 Review of the previous installment of Harry Potter.

UNDERWORLD RISE OF THE LYCANS: Review + Preview

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Since we got all the goodies from Sony so late, we weren’t able to make a proper preview for Underworld, so we’ve incorporated a few words of wisdom from the cast and crew into our regular review style.

What did we think? Well, we knew what we were getting, not only because it’s a prequel and the story was already given away back in 2003, but because we know what to expect from an Underworld movie: Vampires and Werewolves taken deadly serious no matter how absurd the story. And we love it that way. Sure the second film in the series was an ungodly piece of crap, but hey, not everything is Lord of the Rings or Star Wars.
