  1. I saw the film three times and i loved all the batman films, for me i felt the epic scope, and i just believe that this was although not the story many fans like myself and Matt were expecting that for me at least there seems in my mind some wiggle room to pretend that bruce wayne eventually will become batman again and make “robin” his second fiddle lol (even tho chris nolan will not come back ~~~maybe~~~ and leave it alone)… Do you guys think that if they had made the dark knight rises into two parts like many warner bros films, i.e harry potter and the twilight series finallies that it would have presented an opportunity to have encompassed all of what Matt and other die hard fans who didnt care for the film would have liked to have seen, and maybe added more story elements ( maybe we couldve seen his back actually broken, maybe robin team up would have been cool etc.)

  2. Matt you’re dead on the money. I understand Nat’s reason to defend trying to get you to stop looking at it from a comic fan’s perspective. But this movie just wasn’t good.

Ignoring the fact this movie ignores the comics (which i never thought they’d stay true to completely anyway. because they did the killing joke pretty well while making an original story with some of its influences) this movie just was horrible. It had bad pacing, rushed romance, convoluted, just a hot mess .

Batman – what was the point of the limping? if you’re just going to fix it in the first few minutes? Yes batman doesn’t quit, but if you’re defense is its Nolan’s batman well why couldn’t he at least make bruce just seeing no benefit to being batman at the beginning. Having everyone hate him and blame him for the death of harvey dent. And hating him even more than they did during the dark knight would have made a better impact. And it would make more sense for him to quit if we got to see bruce in a self destructive state of being by way of crime fighting rather than have him just go into hiding. It would have worked better.

Bane breaking batman’s back was just fan service. He didn’t really break it because it he really needed was a chiropractor.

Anne Hathaway was alright, she would have been a descent cat woman. But Cat woman’s character herself just seemed rushed and irrelevant. We don’t know why she’s good at fighting. Don’t know what she did wrong beforehand. Don’t see a real purpose to being in this story. If we took her out. It wouldnt have made a difference to the story if you gave her lines to someone else.

Robin, or john blake whatever, has no training no idea on how to use the equipment. And i’m not saying he’s not capable or shouldnt be batman but batman can’t just leave Robin the keys to the waterfall and expect him to figure everything out. And why couldn’t we just have the line be left alone at “why don’t you try my legal name.” and that would have been enough. Don’t say Robin, don’t even say Dick Grayson. We all would have loved it.

(btw what if the orphaens play the piano, are they really not going to find that bat cave?)

Talia – That scar on her back? what was that? whatever it was when i saw it it made it perfectly clear there was more to her and sure as hell going to be talia. Besides especially when they had 2 conversations prior to them sleeping together. It just seemed rushed and fan service more than anything.

It was just a mess. And these mistakes are even worse if you look at it from a comic book fan’s perspective.

  3. loves the movie absolutely watch i more times the the experience increases each time to be honest this is the film that have a hard and development and critical ideas, non other has done this year effectively, this film takes so much risks and to be honest love the film is incredible, TDRK is a very good movie the thing people won’t like some story elements and that just to opinion but the film very well done in every aspect.

  4. I think DC characters are a little bit more complex than Marvel heroes therefore I think DC characters are harder to nail on the big screen.

Then again, DC can learn from Marvel and take risks, like they did.

  5. I’m very split on this movie. I agree all of Matt’s criticisms if this film, especially the point about Bruce Wayne sitting around for 8 years; which seemed too similar to Superman’s 7 year absence in Superman Returns.

I have several other gripes about about this movie, however I can’t help it, but I actually like this movie. I would have liked Nolan to continue the gangland “feel” of The Dark Knight, but the return to Batman Begins was satisfying in a way. I enjoyed the parallels between the stories and I enjoyed the story thread about Wayne learning to Bruce Wayne again and wanting to live. I thought this made the character much more human.

I also liked the fact that Bruce was Batman for only about 14 months. I thought the beginning of The Dark Knight showed what a night for Batman was like, he was getting bitten by dogs, smashed against walls and landing on cars after jumping down 8 stories. No human person can withstand this amount of physical beatings.

I thought the original plan when Nolan was hired was to only do three films, then reboot again for another interpretation of the character. Maybe in 2015 we will see a more acrobatic batman wearing the classic Black, Blue and grey outfit with a brightly colored Robin.

While not perfect, I enjoyed this version of Batman and and interpretation that Nolan gave us.

  6. I thought it was an okay movie. Still think Batman Begins is the best of the trilogy. If Matt and Nat haven’t seen it yet, there is a funny “How It Should Have Ended” video at their website for TDKR. http://www.howitshouldhaveended.com/

Upcoming movies that look interesting are Dredd 3D, Resident Evil Retribution, Looper, Wreck-it Ralph, and Skyfall. I’m looking forward to Wreck-it Ralph the most.

  7. Multiple times in the movie they tell you that during the 8 years Batman cleaned up the streets. With Gotham not needing Batman anymore I think that is when he sank into depression. I do think they could have gotten rid of the stuff in the pit or make it shorter. I’m a huge Batman fan. Fans of the comics need to understand that this is Nolan’s version of Batman and that its not completely like the comic. I would like to have seen them work the Lazarus pit into the movie somewhere. All in all I thought it was a good end to the saga.

  8. well if this movie review doesn’t prove that Matt has no idea what he is talking about then nothing will. Batman had plenty of screen time in the movie stop bitching that the movie want a shot for shot remake of some comic book. well that it for me I cant take seriously people who dont know good film when it slaps them in the face.

  9. It is hard to take this review seriously when you liked the Webb Spiderman, X-Men Origins, and kind of liked Transformers 2. I understand you guys are geeks, but really? This was a bit on the ridiculous side. The Dark Knight Rises was loud, clunky, but it worked. And really? That is what I was looking for. Obviously it wasn’t going to beat the Dark Knight, but it still did a damn good job. Sorry you weren’t impressed, but you guys REALLY need a standardized way of reviewing movies, because there are MAJOR inconsistencies here.

If a movie doesn’t have every single geeky aspect in it from the sourcematerial, you hate it with fanboy/girl rage. Even if it is a well put together movie with great performances. I am sorry, but I simply do not understand or agree with you guys anymore.

  10. I pretty much agree with Jim Kalah. Too inconsistent. But hey, those are your opinions…I guess.
