I thought the first Paranormal Activity movie was excellent. The second one wasn't that great. It was more shocking than anything.

I'm a chick and this movie bored the living crap out of me...oh yeah...and I watched it alone btw so I'm supposed to be even more scared yeah? Wrong!! A Haunting in Connecticut scared the crap out of me...and yes I watched that alone as well so it doesn't depend on the crowd you watch it with, it depends on whether you're a woose or not. You are if incredibly boring movies like this scares the crap out of you. I would love to see what you guys are like while watching a decent horror movie =D

Finally saw this movie and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a good deal of fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it. But it does leave you hanging with a cliffhanger and you kind of wished that this would be an origin story but besides those little flaws, I'd recommend it to anyone who either is a fan of Holmes or Downey, Jr. or is still trying his or her best to buy a ticket to Avatar.

3 out of 4 Stars.

I saw it at the Alamo Drafthouse and there was barely people in the theatre but enough to call an audience. Even though there wasn't a lot of people, the movie still scared the frak out of me. I think you have to be in the right mood to see this movie in order for it's magic to work. I don't know, I guess you either hate it or you love it. Same thing happened with Blair Witch, it'll surely happen again with Paranormal Activity. You'll see... You'll see!!!

I wholeheartedly agree with Matt's response to Antony earlier. The movie-going experience is SO much more than just sitting in your seat and munching on popcorn while the film rolls. I sharply remember two examples of what Matt references about crowd energy and being INTO the movie: "A Nightmare on Elm Street" in '84 and "The Blair Witch Project" in '99. In both instances, the atmosphere in the theater was electric and the crowd was intensely focused on the film. Everything worked: the shocks, the tension, the beats, the scares... and they were nights at the theater that I'll never forget. In both instances, I grabbed people the next day and said, "You HAVE to see this movie - let's go!" And again, in both instances, the second showings were with lackluster crowds and it felt like watching shlock on the screen. The heightened experience and the thrill of the first viewings made the films seem MUCH better than what they were.

As moviegoers, we LIVE for those evenings where we get sucked into the film and suspend our disbelief to the point where we actually forget not only that we're in a theater watching a movie, but that we're in OUR world and not the one on the screen. Unfortunately, I saw "Paranormal Activity" at a barely-attended weekday matinee, and there was no magic to be felt that day. I found the movie to be interesting enough to hold my attention, but I couldn't get into it the way that I wanted - especially after hearing some of the rave reviews. Maybe next time!

The whole thing's a fake David Gale. Do your research first before you make another hate comment towards the film.

Is this review a joke if you watch this film you will bored you to death not scared to death as lead to belive. And as for its claim that it is real footage then it begs the question why are their two versions of the film out with different endings.

Easy there, Antony... we NEVER get paid for reviews, for two geeks who do this out of the love of film and community that's not really even a funny thing to joke about.

In any event, people are obviously pretty split on this film, but I think it comes down to the theatre you're in, and the mood of that crowd. Where we watched it, everyone was so into it, the terror was infectious. It was incredible. Obviously your experience wasn't as good as ours, and that's a shame... it really is an amazing film when the mood is right.
