Nat’s Geeky Q&A: Favourite Superhero Movie?

Fresh off of Toronto’s FanExpo, I ask geek celebs from Stargate to Twilight to choose their favourite superhero movie… and for someone who created the characters in most of the best ones like Stan “The Man” Lee, it’s a tough call!

We know theirs and now you know mine… but what’s yours?

I’ve got to agree with Doctor Suresh… Keaton’s Batman all the way. I still remember being nine years old in the theatre and loving every second of it. It made such an impact on me that I still think Nicholson is a better Joker than Ledger.

Great segment, Nat! I’m looking forward to more :)

batman begins revolutionized the genre, in my opinion.

…although League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a guilty pleasure of mine.

  3. Nat Says:

Thanks Matt:) But seriously? You loved Nicholson more than Heath Ledger? Is that because you genuinely liked the performance and representation better? Or are you feeling a bit of anti-Ledger cause EVERYONE RAVES about how incredible he was.

LOVE IT! Nat you’re adorable… hahaha My favorite is Batman, for sure. I didn’t like the first Tim Burton one because Vicky Vale was annoying. BUT, Batman Returns had me at “Hell Here”, I still dream of owning Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman costume. And can anyone tell me what her claws were made out of? OMG! Then I got into the Batman:Year One which had me set for the Batman Begins… in all Batman – home run hit.

Oh and second place is X-Men because Rogue’s first name is Marie and she’s got a streak in her hair – like me. Sooo…. VANITY WIN!

Me, as I’ve stated on the YouTube posting of this vid, is “Unbreakable.” It may not be based on a comic book like all those mentioned, but its still a damn good superhero movie.

Honestly, I think it’s hard to really say which Joker is the better one. I personally liked the Nicholson and Ledger Jokers for their own reasons. But if I had to choose a definitive Joker, my pick would be Mark Hammell’s Joker. Yes, he only does the voice of Joker for the animated series and the “Arkham Asylum” game, but he gives the Joker the perfect voice, while Nicholson brings the Joker’s silliness and Ledger brought Joker’s sinisterness.

My choice – Matt, I’m also a fan of the Batman movie (1989) for 4 reasons – Keaton (a cooler Batman than Christian Bale version) , Nicholson (the best Jocker), the vibe of the movie and ….. Tim Burton!!!
By the way, Nat, you did a really great job on the new “Q&A” and on the interviewing of the celebs.
    Thanks Geeks, loved it :)

  8. Heath Says:

The Dark Knight. Enough said. Screw all you guys LOL

  9. Autumn Says:

First X-Men. I saw that movie so many times. High school me really identified with Rogue :D

    Nice Q&A :D

Me I’m gonna have to say its a toss up, Dark Knight, Iron Man, Watchmen. Those are my complete faves at the moment.

TDK not just as supehero movie

  12. brashhulk Says:

Well, since we’re limiting it to just Superhero movies, and not movies based on comics in general:

    1. Superman (1978): Chris Reeve embodied the schizophrenic mix of Kal-El, Clark Kent, and Superman to perfection. Sure, there were some minor nags with the story itself, but my adrenaline starts pumping the second John Williams’ magnificent score starts.

    2. Batman Begins (2008): This movie is spellbinding in a way that no other superhero movie has ever been. Every single word of praise that’s been lavished on Ledger’s performance is justified, and damned be the backlashers. Can’t wait for Nolan’s third.

    3. Iron Man (2008): Aside from a weak performance from Terrance Howard and an ego-stroking self-casting by Jon Favreau, this film was the anti-Dark Knight in tone while being just as enjoyable to watch several times. Robert Downey Jr. owns the part of Tony Stark.

    4. Watchmen (2009): Zack Snyder pulled of the Sisyphean task of adapting the 800-pound gorilla of comics into a surprisingly human, strikingly surreal and bone-crunchingly graphic film that, while flawed in many ways, was almost impossible to tear your eyes from.

    5. The Rocketeer (1991): An often-overlooked superhero movie because of its 1940s setting, Disney bankroll and bright color palette, this is one of the most faithful film adaptations of a comic in every way, with great performances and stunts… and Jennifer Connelly.

    6. The Crow (1994): A lot of people don’t consider The Crow a superhero, but I do. He possesses supernatural powers and is a force for justice – albeit street justice. Not a letter-perfect adaptation of the comic, but Brandon Lee’s soulful performance is dynamic.

    7. Hellboy (2004): As a huge Hellboy fan, there was plenty of initial nerdrage from the changes made from the comics – however, the performances of Ron Perlman, John Hurt, Doug Jones and Selma Blair won me over and I enjoyed the dark yet fun romp they made.

    8. X-Men 2 (2003): The reason why this isn’t higher on the list is because of a few specific things that keep me from really loving this film: Halle Berry is awful, the Jason Stryker macguffin, the “why is she there?” appearance of Lady Deathstrike, etc.

    9. Spider-Man 2 (2004): A superior sequel, just as X-Men 2 was – with just a few too many “ugh” moments to place it higher. And even though she has some nice curves, Kirsten Dunst is as attractive as naval lint as Mary Jane.

    10. Batman Begins (2005): A good movie that could have been great. Poor casting choices in key roles (Katie Holmes, Liam Neeson, Cillian Murphy) sank it for me, along with some mystifying plot twists, like “Ra’s Al Ghul is not Ras’ Al Ghul. Really, he’s not.” Huh?

  13. CB2001 Says:

Brashhulk- Why do you have “Batman Begins” twice with two separate years and descriptions?

  14. brashhulk Says:

Oops, #2 was supposed to “The Dark Knight”… darn cut-n-paste mess-ups!

  15. Tootie Says:

Can’t pick a favourite – I do think Ang Lee’s The Incredible Hulk is a worthy mention to all those above – I loved the boxed style and it had kickass character development and action and mystery and good development of the female lead.
Many superhero movies have a well-devleoped female lead, but in the sequel movies, like Dark Knight and Spiderman 2, their story is pretty nowhere….

  16. Swail Says:

Everybody always craps allover the 2003 version of HULK, I liked that one A LOT.
Watchmen blew my mind. If it doesn’t count than I actually have the exact same opinion as Stan Lee :0

  17. Luke Says:

1: the dark knight; 2: unbreakable; 3: the hulk (drama + action: a masterpiece ahead of its time); 4: spiderman; 5: x-men: the last stand (superhero apocalypse, the more superheroes the merrier); 6: sin city (if you call being semi-’bullet proof’ being a superhero, Rourke reminded me of the comic book wolverine); 7: iron man 2 (Scarlet made me drool); 8: watchmen; 9: batman & robin (funny); 10: superman returns (awesome for being solid)
    But there’s hardly a superhero movie i don’t like…
